In no way am I a feminist. [misogyny, rape culture, ignorant douchebaggery]
Feminists want equality among men and women in our society. Same wages/salary, expectations, reputations, benefits, education, treatments, everything. Despite their countless attempts to create an equal society, sexism is still present everyday. For an average woman that worked full-time, her median weekly earning for 2011 was $688; which is only 81.6% of the $843 men earned. Sexist, right? Well, don’t hate me…but I disagree. Men and women will never be equal, because we’re not the same. If I was an employer for a successful company and was looking for someone willing to put in a long-term commitment and be dependable, I would choose a man. Why? Because of maternity leave. Because if I wanted an employee to work late into the night and leave the building alone, I’d rather not have a female employee of mine get raped on the way out. I’d feel responsible and guilty.
I agree that there should be some kind of equality among men and women. If they’re doing the same work with the same degree, why not receive the same pay? Why not give them equal education and benefits? There’s no doubt that a woman can do anything a man can. Buuuuuuut…men are better suited for certain things. Just like women are too.
The maternity leave thing is a strawman, provided you live where I do (Canada!) Where men can and do take paternity leave.
A woman working late wouldn’t need to fear getting raped in an equal society. An equal society requires getting rid of rape culture.
Which things are men more suited to and which things are women more suited to? Almost universally things men are “suited to” are things which pay more, and things which women are “suited to” are undervalued. Why is that? Is it really coincidence that librarians and teachers and nurses - most of whom are women - are paid less than almost all other professions? Are paid woefully less than they’re worth?
Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me? “I can’t hire a woman- then I’d feel bad for not making sure that her work environment was safe enough that she wouldn’t get raped”?! Really? Are you fucking joking? No- you shouldn’t hire men so then they won’t be able to skulk around your building raping people and you’ll have to feel guilty about hiring a rapist. What the hell is that bullshit?
On the last paragraph- keeping in mind that teachers and librarians are both instrumental in the education of ALL people- including men, that nurses can be just as important as doctors in patient care and treatment. I would like to see how far men would get without any education at all. (actually, I wouldn’t, because they’d get farther than highly educated women because “He just seems like a better choice, I have a good feeling about him”) And yet teachers get a disgustingly low pay despite often having to do 80 hours of work a week due to grading papers/preparation/parent-teacher conferences/etc. Men also dominate “higher” education (which would be inaccessible to the vast majority without “lower” education), which is far better paying even in public universities, so clearly teaching is valued and worth paying a lot for… when men are doing it.
Do you see that part up there that I bolded? My eyebrows shot up at that. I’m just. I don’t even think “shocked” is the right word for how I feel about that. Horrified, maybe. That seems more accurate.
You don’t want to hire women because you would feel bad if they were raped.
Okay.
Okay.
Let’s just look at this from all the angles that make you wrong.
One: women are not the only people who are victims of rape. Two: would you feel equally guilty and bad if one of those men you hired was raped on his way out? Three: would you feel equally responsible if any of your employees were raped on their way out of the building during the day, or do your feelings of responsibility only start after dark? Four: let’s look at what Scar-Lip has to say up there, because nin’s right—if you’re going to bypass women because they might get raped, then how about you bypass men because they might rape? Or, according to that logic, let’s never fucking hire anyone because people of all genders have the potential to be raped or to be a rapist.
Five, and this one’s on a different note, so bear with me for a second: women are not the only people who can get pregnant, and not all women can get pregnant. What you’re telling me is that if a person is capable of carrying a child, it makes them less reliable. Just by the virtue of being able to get pregnant.
Jesus motherfucking christ on a pogo stick, are you ever a sexist douchecanoe.
